It\u2019s hard to say. Employers are slowly returning workers to the office. Yours may or may not have changed their work-from-home policy.<\/p>\n
And then that policy might change again right away if the COVID delta variants wreak too much havoc.<\/p>\n
So you have a good chance of being stuck at home here for a while. And as that happens, here\u2019s some energy savings tips to keep in mind.<\/p>\n
We try to keep it fresh. So hopefully you haven’t thought about implementing these yet:<\/p>\n
1. Using More Fans<\/strong><\/p>\n You\u2019ve heard us talk about using ceiling fans to help you feel a little more cool. By the way, you do have yours set to spin counterclockwise, don\u2019t you?<\/p>\n When yours spins that way, it pushes more air on your body, which makes you feel cooler. It really doesn\u2019t do anything for the actual air temperature.<\/p>\n Nonetheless, because you feel cooler, you\u2019re less likely to turn up the AC thermostat.<\/p>\n As the Texas heat subsides, consider switching to all fans instead of relying on your AC system. Your AC is the biggest user of energy in your home.<\/p>\n 2. Collect Water with a Rain Barrel<\/strong><\/p>\n This is a little more \u201chardcore\u201d of an energy savings tip. But it does work.<\/p>\n Relax. You don\u2019t need to collect rainwater for drinking or bathing.<\/p>\n Instead, you collect it for other uses: gardening, lawn care, cleaning tools, play, washing a concrete driveway, washing your mailbox, or even washing the windows on your car or home.<\/p>\n Won\u2019t this attract mosquitoes?<\/p>\n No, it won\u2019t if you add a quarter cup of vegetable oil each week.<\/p>\n
