Since we have warm weather practically year-round, you can save a pretty good chunk of change by watering your lawn in the most efficient way possible.<\/p>\n<p>Even when you do so, you\u2019re not hurting the health of your lawn. We\u2019re not advising you to do anything like that. Because, you want the best of both worlds: a healthy green lawn and reasonable water costs.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what to do to keep your costs efficient and have the lawn everyone in your neighborhood envies:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Water from 4-6 A.M. <\/strong><br \/>\nWhen the sun\u2019s high in the sky like it is in the later morning and afternoon, it shines right on your water and evaporates around 50% of it. In other words, you waste 50% of the water you sprinkle on your lawn during that time.<br \/>\nHowever, water your lawn from 4-6 A.M. before the sun gets high in the sky, and that water seeps into the ground where your grass can access it. By the way, if you water later in the evening, you risk the water pooling and causing disease.<br \/>\nEarly morning\u2019s always ideal.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Water Your Grass Only When It\u2019s Dry <\/strong><br \/>\nIt\u2019s easy to eyeball your grass and see whether it\u2019s in need of watering. If your glass has a blue-gray tint, or if the blades are curling and wilting, it needs some water.<br \/>\nYou can also step on your grass. Unhealthy grass can\u2019t tolerate heavy weight well, so your footprint stays in longer.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Consider a Sprinkler System<\/strong><br \/>\nYes, sprinkler systems cost some money up front. You\u2019re not getting one because you want to save money immediately.<br \/>\nHowever, they add a lot of convenience. You can set them to water exactly when they need to, and that\u2019s it. So, they\u2019ll save you money and energy too.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Make Sure Your Sprinklers Cover Your Lawn <\/strong><br \/>\nIf you have a sprinkler system, make sure it covers your entire lawn adequately. It\u2019ll be obvious it doesn\u2019t when you see parts of your lawn that don\u2019t look healthy.<br \/>\nTo avoid this problem, evaluate sprinkler installers carefully. Don\u2019t underpay. The best companies know their value and charge accordingly.<br \/>\nThe cheap guys don\u2019t. They cut corners. And that costs you in the long run.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Stop Watering If Runoff Appears<\/strong><br \/>\nIf you have an automatic sprinkler system, those are susceptible to error. Or, if you have a manual sprinkler, watering errors can happen too.<br \/>\nGive your lawn a quick lookover after a watering every once in a while. If you catch runoff, turn your system off. Have it inspected. And do repairs if necessary.<br \/>\nToo much water leads to the building up of thatch over time. And as mentioned earlier, it can cause disease.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Armed with these tips, you\u2019re ready to save money while watering your lawn.<\/p>\n<p>Doing things in the most efficient way feels great.
