And it\u2019s such a big deal because it does so much good for our earth, which most believe is in grave danger due to human activity.<\/p>\n<p>So what\u2019s happening in that industry right now and the foreseeable future?<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s some findings:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. So Far, Not So Good<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All sorts of data point to a dampening on the renewable energy industry amid COVID-19. Per a <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.greentechmedia.com\/l\/264512\/2020-06-08\/jjst2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2020 CohnReznick report<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wood Mackenzie Power and Renewables now forecasts global PV installations to be at around 106 gigawatts. That number falls from 130, representing an 18.4% decrease. They have a similar finding for the US.<\/li>\n<li>US residential demand will fall 40%.<\/li>\n<li>Wood Mackenzie also found wind installations will fall about 5% thanks to coronavirus.<\/li>\n<li>For renewable energy storage, Wood Mackenzie also projects a 20% decrease.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In other words, the outlook for renewable energy isn\u2019t too good.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, the general consensus is that the renewable energy market will begin to recover in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>So, not all hope is lost.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Solar Energy May Lose Half Its Jobs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The coronavirus pandemic, combined with our current president\u2019s lack of support for renewable energy, may result in the solar energy industry <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-03-23\/u-s-solar-workforce-could-be-cut-in-half-by-virus-group-says\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">losing 120,000 of its current 250,000 jobs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This prediction was back at the end of March, when coronavirus was first unleashing its chaos.<\/p>\n<p>Projections have a way of changing over time, so this could mean they may not end up as bad as initially thought.<\/p>\n<p>But whatever the case, the outlook doesn\u2019t appear too good.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to coronavirus, projections called for a marked increase in solar energy jobs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. <\/strong><strong>The Future for the Moment, Does Appear Bleak<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Renewable energy growth has skyrocketed over the past 20 years. You really can\u2019t make any argument otherwise.<\/p>\n<p>The International Energy Agency says these are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iea.org\/commentaries\/the-coronavirus-pandemic-could-derail-renewable-energy-s-progress-governments-can-help\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the current barriers to progress<\/a> in renewable energy use:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Supply chain disruptions<\/li>\n<li>Government incentives ending this year<\/li>\n<li>Tighter public and private budgets<\/li>\n<li>How economic stimulus packages are constructed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With the government incentives, for example, wind farm developers have to connect their project to the grid by the end of December to qualify for government incentives.<\/p>\n<p>However, with the disruption caused by coronavirus, that won\u2019t be possible for many.<\/p>\n<p>For now, it looks as though renewable energy won\u2019t be increasing growth. Everything that could go wrong has, and American policymakers aren\u2019t interested in helping out.<\/p>\n<p>So, all you can do is brace for what\u2019s going to happen, and hope for the best.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Is there anything coronavirus doesn\u2019t affect?
